I was asked to bind a collection of Polish books, mostly featuring the great Polish poet and dramatist Adam Mickiewicz. I started with this set of three.
Then this Balzac volume.
And finally this volume which was of great significance to the client because it had been his father’s favourite book. He requested bright red leather, and my conservative nature was initially against it. But I dyed various samples and I actually now love the colour. I had to re-stitch the text block where possible and entirely reconstruct several pages, especially page 17/18 which was in terrible condition. The first images show the original state of the book. You can see the before and after of “that" page. Definitely not perfect but legible and robust.
